パートナーの暴力行為に関する報告書 (10/29/09)

10月21日、司法省より大都市部でのパートナーの暴力行為についてレポートが発表されました。このレポートによると、配偶者、元配偶者、恋人などによる暴力のうち22%は子供に目撃されています。　また加害者の46%は、以前にも同じ人物に対して暴力行為を行っています。報告書全文は下記のサイトからご覧になれます。

算数・数学の学力調査 (10/15/09)

米教育省教育統計センターは10月14日、米国内の算数・数学の学力調査の結果を発表しました。小学校４年生168800人と中学校２年生161700人を対象とし、2009年の１月から３月にかけて行われました。同様の調査が、読解力、科学の分野でも行われ順次発表される予定です。

米教育省教育統計センターは10月13日、米国の公立の初等・中等学校に関する統計を公表しました。それによると、2007年から2008年の公立の初等・中等学校数は98916校あり、1927< /FONT>校が新しく開校しました。また、全米50州のうち、41州はチャータースクールを認可しており、米国内のチャータースクールの数は4388校にのぼります。

家庭と生活環境に関する報告書 (10/7/09)

米商務省国勢調査局は10月１日、米国の家庭と生活環境に関する報告書を公表しました。それによると、専業主婦の割合は全婚姻世帯のほぼ４分の１であり、その内訳は若年層やヒスパニック系、外国生まれの割合が多くなっています。また単身世帯の割合が、1970年の17％から2007年には27％に増加していることや、1970年には3.1人であった世帯規模が2007年には2.6人に縮小していることなどが報告されています。

国立公園の将来に関する報告書 (10/2/09)

米内務省は９月24日、国立公園の将来に関する報告書を公表しました。国立公園制度が発足してから約100年になりますが、今後のあるべき姿を検討するため、識者による委員会が設置されました。今回の委員会の報告書では、多くの国立公園で環境悪化や周辺の人口増が問題となっており、今後は人間と自然の持続可能な関係の構築が不可欠だと指摘されています。また、国立公園の教育的側面の強化のため、教育機関と連携することなどが提言されています。

所得、貧困、健康保険に関する報告書 (9/14/09)

米商務省国勢調査局は９月10日、米国民の所得と貧困、健康保険に関する報告書を公表しました。それによると、2008年の世帯別所得の中央値は50303ドル、貧困率は13.2％となっています。また、健康保険の未加入者は4630万人であり、国民全体の15.4％に達しています。

不法ドラッグ使用に関する報告書 (8/21/09)

米国保健・福祉省から不法ドラッグ使用に関する報告書が8月に公表されました。この報告書によると、他の年齢層は横ばいか減少傾向にありますが、50歳から59歳のベビーブーマー（1946年から1964年に生まれたアメリカ人）の不法ドラッグの使用が、2002年の5.1%から2007年には9.4%と約2倍に増えていると報告しています。

ボランティア活動やコミュニティサービスを推進する連邦政府の独立機関"Corporation for National and Public Service"は７月27日、2008年のボランティア活動に関する調査結果を公表しました。それによると、2008年中に何らかのボランティア活動に参加した人は、成人の26.4％に当たる6180万人となっています。また、年間の延べ活動時間は約80億時間で、金額に換算すると約1620億円に達しています。

オバマ米大統領は２月24日、米議会上下両院合同本会議で初の議会演説を行いました。この演説で、米国の抱える深刻な経済危機に対し、長期的に経済を成長させるエネルギー、医療、教育への投資の必要性を指摘しました。また、国防予算をはじめとする政府歳出の抜本的改革を進め、向こう10年間で少なくとも２兆ドルの歳出節減の余地があると言明しました。大統領はこのほか、地球温暖化対策、イラク・アフガニスタン政策など幅広い分野の課題に言及しています。

米国成人の読書についての報告書 (1/14/09)

米国芸術基金より１月12日、米国人の読書についての報告が発表されました。これによると、米国の成人が小説、短編、戯曲、詩などの文学作品を読む割合が過去25年下降傾向であったのが、昨年はじめて上昇に転じたとのことです。なかでも18歳から24歳の若者の読書率が増加しているそうです。
