
Mark Baron assumed the position of Management and Consular officer at the American Consulate in Fukuoka, Japan in August, 2006.
Previously, Mr. Baron served as a political officer and consular officer at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, Canada, and as a General Services Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Dakar, Senegal.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service in 2000, he was employed as a civilian research specialist with the Department of Defense and the Drug Enforcement Administration. His overseas assignments included Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Rangoon, Mexico City, Panama City, Bogota, and Vancouver.
After graduating from California Polytechnic State University in 1987, with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations, he served on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1987-1991.
Mr. Baron is a native of the San Francisco bay area. His wife, Michele, is an opera singer, and they have three young children.
