November 12, 2008, Kurume – Principal Officer Margot Carrington discussed differing approaches to work and family life balance in the U.S. and Japan at an event sponsored by the Japan-America Society of Kurume. More than 150 members of the Society and their guests attended the lecture program, including JAS Kurume members, senior local government officials, business representatives, as well as university professors and students.
Following the lecture, the audience asked various questions about the status of women in the U.S. and how working parents are coping with the numerous demands placed on them. After the speech, Carrington mingled with the participants and was treated to a concert by the world-famous Bridgestone Brass Band and a performance by young students from the local ballet school.
