New Principal Officer Meets the Press

Aug. 28, 2007 - New Principal Officer Margot Carrington held her introductory press conference on Aug. 28. After an introduction by Tracy Taylor, the new Fukuoka American Center director, Ms. Carrington relayed her impressions of Fukuoka, commenting on the friendliness of the people and the many things to see and do. She went on to emphasize the importance of Kyushu and Yamaguchi in the U.S.-Japan alliance and the security relationship, noting the presence of Iwakuni and Sasebo military bases. Carrington also expressed her intention to support cultural exchanges to further understanding between the Japanese and American peoples.

Nishi-Nippon Shimbun, Kumamoto Nichi-nichi Shimbun, Minami-Nippon Shimbun and Kyushu editions of Yomiuri, Asahi and Mainichi reported the press conference in their morning editions. All six Fukuoka-based television stations also aired the press conference in their evening news programs.
