Business Strategies for Ensuring Global Competitiveness

Kitakyushu - MIT Professor Suzanne Berger spoke about globalization and innovation with business and civic leaders at the Western Japan Industrial Club.She discussed a five-year MIT study of 500 companies looking at globalization and innovation patterns in their international production, and how companies have changed in the last ten years in what standardized production they will do in-house and what they will outsource.

After the speech, Professor Berger and Fukuoka Governor Wataru Aso met in Fukuoka and discussed rural development and problems both countries face in rural job creation to keep youth from migrating to cities. The two also discussed investment in research and development to generate new business opportunities and tips on developing cluster industries.
