Visas in Fukuoka

Donovan People who need a visa to visit the United States can now apply for their visas in Fukuoka. Embassy Charge d'Affairs Joseph Donovan came to Fukuoka on May 9 and opened Fukuoka's visa section. This marks the resumption of visa work in Fukuoka after a 12-year break. CDA Donovan explained that the new services are a part of on-going efforts to improve visa services worldwide. He noted that visas assist in the flow of people and ideas between the United States and Japan, a critical part of our deep and broad bilateral relationship, and said that offering visa services in Fukuoka will help people move between the two countries.

Japanese travelers can continue to travel to the U.S. for short stays for business or pleasure without a visa under the Visa Waiver Program. Those who need visitor visas, including those traveling to the United States temporarily for work, study or research, may now make visa appointments through the Embassy Tokyo Web site. Interviews will be conducted in Fukuoka two to four days per month, depending on demand. Most applicants should receive their visas within 10 days of their interviews.
