Protecting Intellectual Freedom in Cyberspace

Fukuoka - James G. Neal (Vice President for Library Services, Columbia University) and Barbara Jones (University Librarian for Wesleyan University) spoke to Kyushu librarians as part of the consulates continuing librarian education program. Mr. Neal covered intellectual property rights and copyrights in the context of American information science while Ms. Jones discussed intellectual freedom in libraries and in cyberspace. In addition, Ikeda Daisuke of the University of Kyushu spoke on personal identity and privacy issues in the Japanese library context. The Consulate cosponsored the program with the University of Kyushu Library.
