IPSA Theme - Is Democracy Working?
July 13, 2006
Fukuoka - 2,300 political scientists, including over 200 American academics, gathered in Fukuoka July 9-13 for the 20th International Political Science Association World Congress. Many prominent speakers, including Fulbright alumna Dr. Kinoko Inoguchi, Japan's Minister of State for Gender Equality and Social Affairs and US International Visitor Program alumnus Hirotaro Yamasaki, Mayor of Fukuoka, gave remarks at the opening ceremony. The theme of the congress was, "Is Democracy Working?" and the conclusion was that it is working, albeit with some setbacks, and that there are great strides being made in democracy and equality worldwide.
