Yama Sakura 49 Joint Exercises Strengthen Security Relationship

Kumamoto - Kumamoto media and government officials were invited to the opening ceremonies and a press conference for Yama Sakura 49, held January 26 through February 3 at Camp Kengun in Kumamoto. Western Ground Self Defense Force Lt. Gen Hayashi and I Corps Commanding General Dubik led the ceremony and press conference. General Dubik, in opening remarks, stressed the US-Japan partnership in the fight for democracy and against terrorism. Visiting Americans participated in orphanage visits, English language class visits, and service projects at senior citizen homes as part of their community relations activities when not participating in the actual exercise.
