Ambassador Roos Experiences Japanese Baseball
Sept. 8 - Ambassador John V. Roos and his family visited Tokyo Dome on September 5 to take in a baseball game between the Yomiuri Giants and the Yakult Swallows. Before the game, they watched batting practice from the field and had a chance to meet Giants Manager Tatsunori Hara and players including American pitchers Seth Greisinger and Marc Kroon.

Ambassador Roos Reaches Out to Local Japanese Children
August 27 - Ambassador Roos participated in the monthly U.S. Embassy Community Action Program (ECAP) by joining a group of school-aged children from Nonohana-no-ie and Shisei Gakuen children's homes for lunch during the "Take a Child to Work Day" at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. The children asked the Ambassador several questions and thoroughly enjoyed the lunch hour. The program also included a tour of the Embassy TV studio and presentations by Foreign Service Officers.

Ambassador Roos Meets Top Government Officials
August 27 - The first week for Ambassador Roos in Japan included visits to the Kantei, the Foreign Ministry, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI). Following his August 25 meetings with Prime Minister Aso and Chief Cabinet Secretary Kawamura, Ambassador Roos said that he enjoyed the meetings both professionally and personally, emphasizing, "My goal is to continue to strengthen the bilateral relationship between our two incredible countries and to experience Japan in so many different ways." Ambassador Roos also met with METI Minister Nikai on August 25, and then with Foreign Minister Nakasone on August 26.

Roos Family Visits Meiji Shrine
August 26 - Ambassador John V. Roos and his family visited the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo on August 23, 2009. They were met by the Shrine's Chief Priest, Reverend Seitaro Nakajima, who led them to various parts of the shrine. In the Kaguraden hall, four ornately dressed "miko" (shrine maidens) performed a Kaguramai dance, accompanied by "gagaku" (traditional Japanese music).

Ambassador Roos Presents Credentials
August 21 - Ambassador John V. Roos presented his credentials to the Emperor of Japan on the afternoon of August 20, 2009. The Ambassador traveled to the ceremony at the Imperial Palace in a carriage provided by the Imperial Household, departing from and then returning to the Meiji Seimei-kan.
