If you are a federal benefits customer in the above-mentioned areas, you can contact the Embassy via phone at (03) 3224-5000. We accept phone calls Monday through Thursday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. From the recorded phone system, please press #2 for Social Security/Federal Benefits questions, and follow the menu for instructions. You can also reach us anytime at FBUTokyo@state.gov.
Our Federal Benefits Unit is open for customers Monday - Thursday, 8:30 to 12:00 and 2:00 to 4:00, by appointment only. Please call to make an appointment. The section is closed on Fridays.

Mandatory Interviews at Consulate General Osaka-Kobe: Please note that Mandatory Social Security interviews at the U.S. Consulate General Osaka-Kobe are held every Wednesday (except holidays), at 2:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
When you visit the Consulate, please bring the following required documents:
- Valid government-issued photo ID – i.e. passport, driver’s license, Basic Resident Registration Card (Jumin Kihon Daicho Card);
- SS-5-FS Application for a Social Security Card; and
- Documents mailed from SSA Manila Office, if available.
Note to Sapporo-area customers: The Sapporo Consular section takes appointments Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. (except U.S. and Japanese holidays). Please call the Consular Section at (011)-641-1115 for inquiries and appointments.
Note to Fukuoka-area customers: The Fukuoka Consular section assists Federal Benefits customers on an appointment basis. Please call the Consular Section at (092)-751-9331 for inquiries and appointments.
