U.S. Embassy Candidate Privacy Policy

Personal information provided by the applicant to the U.S. Embassy is protected by strict standards that comply with U.S. law and the Japanese Personal Information Protection Act.
The U.S. Embassy does not share or disclose private information to third parties without the consent of the applicant.
Submitted application documents of unsuccessful candidates are destroyed by the Embassy.
Notwithstanding the provisions of Article 5-4 of the Japanese Employment Security Law, the final candidate will be required to disclose the following personal data to determine whether or not the candidate meets U.S. Government Security Standards.
- Registered Permanent Address
- Place of Birth
- Profession and Nationality of Family
- Philosophical or Political beliefs
- Participation in labor unions
The selected candidate's application and personal information are maintained during their employment at the Embassy or Consulate. This information may be used by the Mission for matters related to the individual's duties and employment. Each employee should update personal information appropriately and report to Mission Management in a timely manner.
